Hyundai Motor Group has officially unveiled the production-ready version of its autonomous mobility robot platform, ‘MobED,’ at iREX 2025 in Tokyo. Originally showcased as a concept a few years ago, MobED has now evolved into a fully developed, commercially viable robot designed to transform logistics, delivery, indoor mobility, and industrial operations.
According to Hyundai, MobED represents the future of compact, intelligent mobility—one that brings automation beyond vehicles and into everyday environments.
What is MobED?
MobED—short for Mobile Eccentric Droid—is a small, AI-powered autonomous robot that can move on different types of surfaces, from smooth indoor floors to uneven outdoor terrain.
Its advanced sensor system, LiDAR-based navigation, and special “posture-control” mechanism allow it to operate safely, smoothly, and independently.
Key Highlights from the iREX 2025 Launch
1. Fully Production-Ready Robot Platform
For the first time, Hyundai introduced MobED as a complete product with real-world, production-grade hardware and software.
2. Two Variants Announced — MobED Pro & MobED Basic
- MobED Pro:
- Full autonomous navigation
- LiDAR + camera sensors
- Designed for commercial and industrial use
- MobED Basic:
- Ideal for research, development, and custom applications
- Modular and customizable for institutions and startups
3. Advanced Posture-Control Mechanism
MobED can adjust its height and position based on the ground level, maintaining balance even on slopes, bumps, and tight turns.
4. AI-Powered Autonomous Navigation
The robot uses AI, cameras, and LiDAR to map its surroundings, detect obstacles, and choose the safest and most efficient route.
5. Modular Platform for Multiple Uses
MobED is a versatile base platform. Different functional modules can be attached depending on the task, such as:
- Delivery box
- Camera stabilizer
- Logistics cart
- Healthcare equipment
- Industrial tool carrier
This turns MobED into a multi-purpose autonomous robot.
Potential Use Cases
1. Smart Delivery Robot
Capable of delivering parcels, groceries, and food indoors and outdoors.
2. Warehouse Automation
Ideal for moving goods, loading light items, and supporting logistics operations.
3. Healthcare Assistance
Can transport medical supplies, documents, and devices inside hospitals.
4. Media & Filmmaking
Provides stable, smooth camera movement for professional video production.
5. Industrial Support
Useful in smart factories for carrying tools, parts, and components.
When Will MobED Be Available?
Hyundai confirms that MobED Pro and MobED Basic will go on sale in the first half of 2026 (H1 2026) for global markets.
Why This Matters — Impact on Industry
1. A New Era of Automation
MobED extends robotics beyond factories and demonstrates how autonomous mobility can enter homes, offices, hospitals, and public spaces.
2. Cost-Efficient & Scalable
Because the platform is modular, one robot can serve multiple purposes—reducing operational costs for businesses.
3. Hyundai’s Bold Move Beyond Automobiles
MobED shows Hyundai’s long-term commitment to robotics, AI-driven mobility, and next-generation automation systems.
A Small Robot with a Big Future
Hyundai’s MobED introduction at iREX 2025 marks a major milestone in robotics and mobility.
By presenting the production-ready version, Hyundai signals that this technology is ready to enter real markets very soon. From delivery operations to healthcare and industrial automation, MobED has the potential to reshape multiple industries.
If everything goes as planned, MobED will begin appearing in global cities, factories, and businesses starting 2026.
